About Cynthia

Who am I?

I am a Licensed Massage Therapist as well as a CranioSacral Therapist, a Lymphadema Therapist, a Zero Balancer, a Lymph Therapist, a Shamanic Healer, and a teacher. I have had a private practice in New York City since the 70s, specializing in alternative body work, energetic therapies, Chinese Phsyicianry, and Spiritual healing. I have been a serious “seeker” for most of my life, having spend 30 years studying and teaching first in a traditional spiritual schools, then in the alternative medical community, and finally in the path of the Shaman. My motto is "Seek and Ye Shall Find."

I have been a teacher throughout my career, offering courses in meditation, martial arts, consciousness raising, personal empowerment, Shamanic healing, massage, and alternative energetic practices.

I spend half of my time in the southern Catskills where I have an office along with twelve gardens, a horse, and several pets. I recently completed a course in Permaculture in preparation for a sustainable future on planet Earth. Currently I am diving into the Transition Towns process in my local Sullivan County community.

I have been graced to study over the years with great healers who were extraordinary pioneers of alternative therapies, Shamanic traditions, and Energetic Medicine. I offer many different modalities to clients who come to me seeking relief, awareness, and healing for the mind, body, and spirit.

Where Have I Been?

Jefferson, NY house

I grew up in Raleigh, NC, where I lived a suburban, middle-class existence, filled with music, theater, dance, and many activities in the natural world. I moved north to New York City in my pursuit of a professional acting and singing career. I was drawn to a spiritual school, The Arica Institute, Inc. where I became a “warrior”. Leaving behind many old family belief systems, religion, and tribal beliefs, I practiced and taught spiritual trainings around the country in my search for the real meaning of life and my purpose on Earth.

I began studying many cutting edge healing modalities as a massage therapist, and found my way to Shamanism, the oldest spiritual practice on the earth. After pursuing many spiritual paths in the mystical traditions, all connected with a Guru or Teaching Master, I was ready to find a spiritual practice that was self-empowering, not self-inflating. Imagine my delight to discover Shamanism where I was able to establish a personal relationship with Spiritual advisers and teachers and animal allies who were pleased to assist me in healing myself and others. In my practice I bring together all the modalities and techniques I am trained in to offer comprehensive healing sessions to my clients for the mind, body, and spirit.

Education

My education list would not be complete unless I mentioned the Al-Anon Program I worked for many years and the Non-Violent Communication Movement that I embraced in 2005-2006. There have been many other ism’s I have studied in my lifetime, and will continue to study until the day I “shuffle off this mortal coil.” I have not listed all the Shamans I have worked with, nor all the martial arts, yoga, psychic, dance, acting, and music teachers I have had the privilege to learn from.

Experience

The Performing Arts
I have worked as a professional actress and singer for many years, appearing off Broadway, in regional theaters, soap operas, and film. I have been the lead singer in an acapella jazz group, a country blues band, and have appeared appeared in a leading role at the Delaware Valley Opera Company in Narrowsburg, NY.

The Healing Arts
I studied and taught Chua K’a, a Mongolian Self Massage Technique while associated with The Arica Institute. I began to learn CranioSacral therapy and related alternative therapies, when I was also privileged to assist Dr. John Upledger in his office and clinic as well as in his Advanced classes at the Upledger Institute. I have had a private practice in NYC and the southern Catskills for many years. I was one of the first alternative practitioners to be credentialed at a county hospital there in the 90’s as well as assisting a physiatrist in her private practice with older patients in Long Island. I specialize in Lymph Drainage Therapy as well as Medical Massage and work closely with many health care professionals to provide needed alternative therapies for their patients. I receive many referrals from doctors, chiropractors, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and mental health professionals.

Teaching
I began teaching mediation, yoga, massage and martial arts with The Arica Institute, Inc in the 70s and 80s. I began teaching Shamanism in the late 90s and have been offering workshops at LaGuardia Community College in Queens, as well as privately since then.

Where am I Going?

Fall

I aspire to continue living on the Earth in harmony with the Spirits of Nature offering healing and wisdom to my clients and my community. I shall continue to study and learn ways to live a healthy and productive life. We live in challenging times and I want to offer whatever wisdom and healing that is needed to assist others to learn their Earth lessons and to realize their full potential as citizens of our planet. I believe that we must return to a deeper connection with Nature to find solutions to surviving and thriving in these changing times. I have begun to write poetry and anecdotal stories some of which are found on this web site. I have begun a book about my journey in search of personal empowerment.

I believe I am here not to “fix” the problems of others but to assist them in their journey towards wholeness and health. I am being drawn more into teaching and reflecting for the benefit of others. I dedicate this web site to the wellness of all.
